Description of the attraction
The Transfiguration Cathedral in Mogilev will become the most monumental church in the city. Its construction has been going on for over 10 years.
The ceremony of laying the first stone of the temple with a commemorative capsule and the consecration of the place where the future Cathedral of Mogilev will be built took place on June 10, 2000. The ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Maxim of Mogilev and Mstislavl. The temple is being built on the modern Pushkin Avenue, where the proportions of the cathedral should organically fit into the residential area and overshadow the multi-storey apartment buildings.
The Transfiguration Cathedral reaches 60 meters in height and is the tallest church in the Republic of Belarus. It is able to accommodate more than 3, 5 thousand believers.
The temple is being erected with donations from citizens. In Mogilev, subbotniks were organized at workplaces, the salaries from which were voluntarily transferred by workers of enterprises for the construction of the cathedral. Also voluntary donations were made by many companies in the city and private donors. The Russian Orthodox Church did not remain aloof from the construction of this colossal church in a neighboring Orthodox country and contributed to its construction and decoration.
In 2008, gilded onion domes were installed on the already built temple. In 2010, the interior decoration and decoration of the interior of the cathedral began.
The grand opening of the main temple of Mogilev is promised to be held in 2013, when all the fine finishing of the interior decoration of the temple is completed.
