Atlantic road, Norway
There is a place on earth where the sun almost never sets over the horizon in summer, and at any other time of the year, unique natural landscapes are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent.
We are talking about the Norwegian Atlantic Highway, which runs along the Atlantic coast in places where the sun shines even at midnight in summer. The road is located just 30 kilometers from the Arctic Circle.
The breathtaking trail skirts the coastline of Norway, crossing eight unique bridges. However, timid drivers have no place here, especially in bad weather - it takes a lot of self-control and a lot of experience to drive a car in areas where the road is practically out of sight.
Black Forest mountain road, Germany
The famous mountain trail runs along the main ridge of the northern Black Forest from Freudenstadt to Baden-Baden. The Black Forest Road passes through the locality of the same name, which means "Black Forest" in German. The region is really rich in vegetation - 60% of the mountain range is covered with dense coniferous forests.
The trail offers fantastic panoramic views of the Rhine Valley, French Alsace and the famous Mummelsee lake. The name of the lake comes from the old German word "die Mumme" - nymph. The lake got its name for a reason: according to legend, nymphs and the Water Devil live in the lake, and in the summer, on a full moon, mermaids and water spirits gather for a sabbath. Travelers really note that during a trip along the road they do not leave a feeling of fabulousness and unreality of what is happening, the landscapes and views around are too beautiful.
Transfagarasi Highway, Romania
This mountain trail in the Carpathians is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world. It connects the Romanian regions of Wallachia and Transylvania, passing through the Fagaras mountain range, which is why the road got its name.
The Transfagarasi highway runs through the area in which a large number of Romanian sights are located: the picturesque mountain lake Bilea, located at an altitude of over 2000 meters, the highest mountain in Romania - Moldovianu Peak, 2544 meters high, as well as Poenari Castle - the residence of Vlad Tepes, better known as Vlad Dracula.
The Transfagarasi Highway is recognized as one of the best roads for driving sports cars, and Ford even went to Romania on purpose to test the legendary Ford Mustang there and shoot a spectacular video with the participation of a sports car.
However, in order to ride on the beautiful roads, you do not need to go to Europe - breathtaking routes can be found in Russia as well.
Chuisky tract, highway M-52, mountain Altai
It is not for nothing that the Chuisky tract is considered one of the most beautiful roads in Russia - the route runs through the entire mountainous Altai, stretching to the very border with Mongolia. On the way, incredible views open up: the road passes between mountain ranges, crossing two high-mountainous steppes and the valleys of several rivers.
Due to the fact that the relief and climatic conditions are unstable along the entire route, travelers can personally see the contrasting change of landscapes - green meadows and snow-capped mountain peaks turn into huge desert steppes that extend beyond the horizon.
Highway A-155, route Cherkessk-Dombay
The route is part of the road through the Main Caucasian ridge, better known as the former Military-Sukhum road. The route from Cherkessk to Dombai is incredibly picturesque: part of the road goes along the banks of a powerful mountain river, every now and then majestic mountain peaks appear before your eyes, and a dense forest suddenly opens up in front of travelers behind sharp turns.
This trip is not easy for the driver, but the stunning views more than compensate for any difficulties. In addition, along the way, there are cute cafes with local home cooking, where you can stop and have a good meal - grilled river trout and cheese pies will remain in your heart forever, as will the memories of the beauty of the route.
Highway M-18, Cola
This route, more than 1,500 km long, connects St. Petersburg and the village of Borisoglebsky near the border with Norway. Along the entire route you will encounter many sights, for example, Ladoga Bridge and the Polar Circle monument - it is installed at the intersection of the road with the Arctic Circle. In addition, traveling along the Kola highway, travelers can visit the famous Kizhi nature reserve and the Valaam monastery on Lake Ladoga.
The landscapes and views that open from the track deserve special attention - the route runs through picturesque places where taiga is replaced by forest-tundra, and as you move farther and farther north, the Khibiny begins to appear ahead.
It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a seasoned auto-traveler, or if you have decided to go somewhere on your iron horse for the first time, there is a suitable road for an unforgettable trip for everyone. The main thing to remember is that if such an adventure is new to you, you need to carefully prepare for it:
- Find out if there are any toll road sections on the route;
- Be sure to check if there are closed sections or no-entry zones on the track;
- Make a list of the stops that you want to make during your trip - these can be sights, iconic places or cafes with delicious food that experienced tourists have advised you;
- Before starting your trip, check the weather forecast for the region you are going to - you need to be prepared for any weather troubles; even if meteorologists promise sunny days, it is better to play it safe and take a raincoat or umbrella and warm clothes;
- Prepare the car thoroughly: check the level of technical fluids, the condition of the air conditioner, the pressure in the tires and the operation of the headlights - in case of the slightest malfunctions, be sure to contact the service to diagnose and remove the cause of their occurrence;
