  • Where can you go on vacation in Greece in July?
  • Thessaloniki
  • Thassos

"Where to go to Greece in July?" - not an easy question, because the middle of summer in Greece is the hottest month, when at lunchtime the environment heats up so that vacationers have no time for walks. As for the prices for tours, they are at the maximum level at this time.

Where can you go on vacation in Greece in July?

In Athens, during the day, you can expect + 33-36˚C (humidity - 60%). There is no rain in the Peloponnese and Halkidiki in July, which is considered a disadvantage in the heat (due to its northern location, Halkidiki is more favorable to holidaymakers in the middle of summer).

In July, it is most comfortable to relax on the islands, where the heat is easier to survive thanks to the sea breezes. Pay attention to the islands of Corfu, Thassos and Skiathos, where daily rates fluctuate around + 29-32˚C.

For a beach holiday in the 2nd summer month, you can go to Rhodes, Crete and Santorini. There the water warms up to + 25-26˚C. As for the island of Kos, the water there is slightly cooler + 23-24˚C.

If we talk about "spectacles", in July everyone will be able to take part in the celebration of the Thracian Ethnic Festival, the Hellenic Festival, the Athens Festival, the festival of ancient drama in Delphi.

Thessaloniki

In July, it is not so hot here (+ 31-33˚C during the day, and after sunset the environment cools down to + 19˚C), as in other cities, and occasionally short precipitation (about 5 days per month) is a salvation from the heat.

Thessaloniki invites its guests to explore the Basilica of St. Demetrius (it is an early Christian Hellenistic building in the shape of a quadrangle with later annexes added to it; mosaic canvases of 7-8 centuries and the relics of St. Demetrius are kept here), the White Tower (the 27-meter tower has a cylindrical form, and its top is crowned by a turret, 6 m high; from the observation deck, everyone will be able to enjoy the opening views), the Vlatadon monastery (admiring the interior decoration, visitors will see frescoes dating from 1360-1380), the arch and the tomb of the Emperor Gallery (the central arch is supported by columns decorated with stone bas-reliefs depicting scenes of the Persian military campaign Gallery; the tomb, called the Rotunda, is a late antique memorial structure - its dome is decorated with a mosaic depicting Christ carrying a golden cross), look into the museum of Byzantine culture (visitors are allowed to admire decorations, frescoes, icons, mosaics, church utensils, household items, coins, sculptures), spend time in the Art House gallery-bar (during the day you will be able to visit exhibitions and cultural events, and in the evening - dance to jazz and other music).

In the middle of summer, it is worth pampering yourself with a visit to the Waterland water park: there are swimming pools (Kids Pool, Zen Pool, Wave Pool, Tarzan; the latter is designed to test strength and agility - platforms and ropes will help to move from one bank to another), slides (Multi Slides, Symvoli Slides, Crazy River), a play island for children (Pirates Island). In addition to cafes, there are retail outlets on the territory where you can buy a hot dog, cookies, juice, ice cream.

Thassos

The average daily temperature in July is + 29˚C, and the nighttime + 24˚C. As for heating the water, its temperature at this time is + 25˚C, so you should pay attention to the beaches of Thassos:

  • Saliara Beach: the beach is covered with white marble chips (it is smooth, therefore it is pleasant to walk on it barefoot); it is equipped with sun loungers, changing cabins, a toilet, sun umbrellas, a cafe where you can order refreshing drinks and snacks.
  • Paradise Beach: it is surrounded on all sides by low hills covered with tropical greenery. It is divided into several zones, one aimed at nudists and the other aimed at windsurfing enthusiasts. On Paradise Beach, vacationers will find water sports centers, sports grounds, and catering establishments.
  • Makryammos Beach: tourists who come here can keep themselves busy playing beach volleyball and tennis, join diving, satisfy their hunger in any of the bars or restaurants. Makryammos Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for its cleanliness.

Local sights should not be deprived of attention - the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin (here you can see ancient icons of the 14-17 centuries, in particular, the icon of the All-Seeing Mother of God), the monastery of the Archangel Michael (has a main church, 2 chapels, guest rooms, monastic cells, workshops, where nuns embroider, sew church vestments and do icon painting; and since the monastery is located on the edge of a cliff, do not hesitate to admire the Aegean Sea and Mount Athos, visible in the distance), the palace in Limenaria (the construction of the early 20th century is a 2-storey rectangular building with towers eclectic style), the village of Kazaviti (guests will love the local cuisine and walks in the picturesque surroundings).
