An island with many names
Indeed, this island has a huge number of names that mean different things, besides this it is also called "the island of three hills", "sister island". The first point of the route is the Upper Barakka Gardens - a wonderful panoramic platform from which you can see the main attractions of the capital and the surrounding area.
The next stop on the route is at the Cathedral of St. John, distinguished by its austere façade and magnificent interiors, a collection of unique tapestries, marble tombstones and frescoed ceilings. The main property of the temple is the painting of the great Caravaggio. At the end of the trip, tourists will have a walk through the palace of the Grand Master, acquaintance with the collections of the Armory.
Megalithic temples
Egypt has long been considered the country with the oldest religious buildings on the planet, until scientists in Malta discovered the so-called megalithic temples, which are among the oldest man-made structures.
About 20 such complexes are currently open on the Maltese Islands, the oldest of them is the Ggantija Temple, located on the island of Gozo and is the oldest record holder, awarded an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Among the Maltese megalithic complexes: the grotto and catacombs of St. Paul; catacombs of St. Agatha; Calypso Cave, located in Gozo; grotto of the Nuns in Xlendi.
The catacombs of St. Paul are located in Rabat, which is a suburb of ancient Mdina. According to legend, the Arabs separated Rabat from the center, which is now hidden behind wide stone walls, and its suburbs remain undefended. Saint Paul once lived in this city, here he prayed, here he found his last rest. Thousands of pilgrims come to honor his memory every year, among those who came to pray in the grotto was the Pope St. John Paul II.
