The modern capital of China is not the oldest city in the country, any indigenous person will confirm this. But walking around Beijing, firstly, will show that this city is the largest in the Chinese state and the most densely populated. Secondly, each of the four districts of Beijing has its own attractions associated with history, religions and ancient culture.
Mysterious city
All tourist routes converge (or begin) at the walls of the so-called "Forbidden City", the cultural name is Gugun. It is the largest palace complex in China, numbering almost a thousand buildings, and has already celebrated its 500th anniversary. Among its attractions and memorable places: Qianqingong Palace; Tsynin Garden; Ninshougung Palace; Watchtowers.
On three sides, this architectural splendor is surrounded by the famous Imperial Garden, to the north of it there is another garden called Jingshan. Locals have dubbed it "Panoramic Hill" because of the stunning views of Beijing from the top of the man-made mound.
And yet the most vivid impressions are left not by the city, but by the Gugong Palace, which carried a special mission - twenty-four Chinese rulers, representatives of the Ming and Qing dynasties, considered it their residence. An amazing answer awaits the tourist who asked the question why the palace is located in this place: it was the choice of astrologers, according to whose calculations the territory was the center of the globe.
True, time did not spare the palace complex, before it occupied even larger territories, dignitaries and foreign ambassadors had to go through five gates before entering the courtyard, today there are three gates left.
Walking in the great city
The Chinese capital has a huge number of attractions associated with various religious movements. Many of them have names that sound very melodious in Chinese and also beautiful in Russian, for example, "Tiantan" is the temple of Heaven, "Kunmyao" is the temple of Confucius. Tourists who are fans of Buddhism rush to visit the Yonghegong Temple in Beijing, the adherents of Taoism - the Baiyunguan Temple.
The second important feature of tourist Beijing is that there are many grandiose structures associated with the Chinese revolution. None of the guests of the city will miss the acquaintance with the Mausoleum, where Mao Zedong, the leader of the Chinese people, rests. Many artifacts are on display at the Museum of the Chinese Revolution.
