The name of this Russian regional center undoubtedly influenced the creation of the heraldic symbol of the city. What other object can occupy the main place on the shield, adorn the coat of arms of the Kurgan, except for ancient earthen embankments? On the other hand, the appearance of ancient burial mounds on the main official symbol of the settlement testifies to a long history, the preservation of traditions and the continuity of generations.
Description of the city coat of arms
The heraldic sign of the Kurgan has a very complex compositional structure. It is compiled in accordance with heraldic rules and has several important complexes:
- a traditional (French) shield with important symbols;
- supporters in the images of representatives of the local fauna;
- standards with the image of the earlier coats of arms of the city, entwined with the Andreevskaya ribbon;
- tower crown over the shield;
- green base and silver ribbon with the motto.
On the one hand, the coat of arms of the Kurgan contains a lot of diverse elements, on the other hand, each of them has its own specific place and meaning.
From the history of the main symbol of the city
The Kurgan received its first coat of arms in March 1785; it was a French shield divided into two fields, the upper one being of a delicate azure color, the lower one being green, heraldic emerald. In the upper part of the shield was placed the heraldic symbol of the Tobolsk governorship, which included the city. Banners and attributes of military affairs were depicted - halberds, drums and military fittings. In the lower field of the shield, there were, of course, mounds.
In 1865, a new sketch of the city's coat of arms was born. Now the central place was occupied by an emerald shield, which depicted the same silver mounds that occupied most of the field. In the upper left corner (for the viewer) there was a small golden shield with its own elements, the coat of arms of the Tobolsk province.
In addition, according to the project, the coat of arms of the Kurgan was crowned with a silver tower crown, there was a scarlet ribbon in the frame, which draped beautifully around the handles of two golden hammers, crossing behind the shield. This project was never brought to life, but remained in history.
In Soviet times (in 1970) a new heraldic symbol appeared, in which, however, the elements of the old coats of arms were preserved. The new symbol is a shield, divided into three fields. In the two lower fields were the historical coats of arms of the Kurgan and the Tobolsk governorship (province). In the upper part, on a scarlet background, were depicted the well-known symbols of the Soviet era - a gear and ears. The new coat of arms was approved in 2001.
