In 1863, trains were launched in London on the world's first subway tracks. Since then, humanity has not ceased to compete not only in improving the technical equipment of subways, but also in the design of the interiors of their stations. The oldest subways in the world - New York and Chicago, Budapest and Paris - have seen a lot in their lifetime. But age in this case is not a guarantee that the most beautiful metro station is located exactly on their railway tracks.
Be careful, the doors are closing
The Moscow Metro, according to many, is one of the most beautiful on the planet. Its stations were built in the 30s-50s of the last century, but even today they do not cease to delight the guests of the capital. In the process of finishing these stations, marble and granite, stained-glass windows and tiles, mosaics and painting were used, and therefore Muscovites quite rightly believe that the most beautiful metro station in the world is located in their hometown:
- "Kievskaya" on the Circle Line is decorated with numerous panels with stucco molding and smalt mosaics dedicated to the historical events of fraternal friendship between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples.
- The Ploschad Revolyutsii station is one of the very first in the Moscow subway. It is finished with dark marble and labradorite. In the arches there are 76 bronze figures made by sculptors from the Leningrad Art Casting Workshop.
- The marble benches of the Novokuznetskaya station were saved during the destruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, and the ceiling panels were created by the artist Vladimir Frolov during the siege of Leningrad. His works were taken out along the Road of Life, and the master himself did not live to see the opening of one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world.
To the subway like a museum
In many countries of the world, special importance is attached to the decoration of metro stations. The Swedes can be considered the record holders in this matter: a huge amount of interesting materials and ideas were used in the construction of the Stockholm metro. There are stations where art exhibitions and music festivals take place, and some of the stops are made in the form of caves and palaces, gardens and castles. According to the Swedes, the most beautiful metro stations in the world are Tensta with rock carvings, Royal Garden with luxurious interiors and Solnasentrum with a red ceiling and green walls.
Residents of Naples love to show guests the Toledo station, made in all shades of blue mosaic, and Lisbonians are crazy about the design of the Olayas station with a luxurious stained glass ceiling in all colors of the rainbow.
