Certain heraldic symbols of Russian cities are distinguished by their stylish and laconic images. For example, the coat of arms of Tomsk consists of only three elements, which together look like a single complex, at the same time, each of them plays a certain symbolic role.
This heraldic symbol was approved at a meeting of the Tomsk City Duma in November 2003. The regulation contains articles devoted not only to the coat of arms of the city, but also to the flag, fixes the color palette, symbols and order of use.
Description of the coat of arms of Tomsk
Any photo in the color of the heraldic symbol of the city demonstrates a restrained palette, at the same time, colors have been used for a long time in heraldry. A rich emerald color was chosen for the field of the shield; it is known that endless Siberian expanses are associated with shades of green. For the main symbol elements, shades of precious metals, gold and silver, have been chosen.
The composition of the main heraldic symbol of the city of Tomsk contains the following parts:
- French shield with the image of a horse;
- the classic tower crown crowning the shield;
- gold ribbon with a silver inscription at the base of the coat of arms.
The heraldic symbols of Tomsk and the region are identical, and in both cases the horse occupies the central place on the shield, and it gallops to the right (from the point of view of heraldry). The viewer sees the opposite picture, the animal moves to the left. There is also a small nuance that only attentive viewers can notice: on the city coat of arms, the pony tail is shown down, on the regional coat of arms - up.
From the history of the coat of arms
It is clear that the Tomsk region as a territorial entity appeared only during the years of Soviet power. Until that time, there was a Tomsk district, which was part of the Tobolsk province.
The first description of the heraldic symbol of the county center dates back to 1734. The shield depicted two sables in an upright position and a crown over their heads. In 1729, the official coat of arms of Tomsk was approved by Emperor Peter II, a miner was present at it, since at that time mineral deposits were discovered on the territory of the Tomsk district. Since 1782, the central place on the shield has been occupied by a silver horse, a symbol that has survived to this day.
A little later, the coat of arms of Tomsk, which is the center of the province, received a tower crown of gold. In addition, there was a wreath of oak leaves intertwined with the Andreevskaya ribbon in the frame. This symbol disappeared from the heraldic sign of the city after the October Revolution.
