Few of the heraldic symbols of Russian cities are as beautiful, magnificent and rich as the coat of arms of Ryazan. It is made in the best old European traditions, in accordance with all the rules of heraldic science. This symbol of one of the regional centers can tell a lot about the glorious pages of the history of the city and the territories around it.

Description of the Ryazan coat of arms

It is best to view a color photo of the main official symbol of Ryazan. So, firstly, you can evaluate the palette of colors used by the authors of the sketch, and secondly, carefully consider all the large and small details of the coat of arms.

This heraldic sign was approved in 2001, then certain changes were made to it in 2008. In addition to the official approval of the coat of arms by the city authorities, it passed the necessary procedures and is registered in the State Heraldic Register of Russia, which indicates a high artistic performance and compliance with the canons.

The coat of arms of the city of Ryazan consists of several important objects connected with each other, the most expressive among them are the following:

  • a golden shield with the image of a prince;
  • the cap of Monomakh, located above the shield;
  • supporters in the form of a silver horse and a golden griffin;
  • framed ceremonial chain;
  • at the bottom - the motto of the city.

The image of the prince occupying the central place on the shield deserves special attention. The official documents clearly state the details and colors of his outfit. The main character is dressed in a scarlet epancha decorated with a gold clasp, silver pants and boots. The prince is armed, in his right hand he holds a silver sword, in his left hand - a silver scabbard. There is even a clarification that the headdress and epancha are trimmed with sable fur.

From the history of the coat of arms

The image of the Ryazan seal of the 16th century has survived, with a walking horse occupying the central place on it. Since there is no harness and no rider, such a horse was called wild in heraldry. And already in the next century, a prince appeared on the seals of the city (in other interpretations - a warrior), and this character was depicted standing on the ground.

The famous "Tsar's Titular" in 1672 also had the emblem of Ryazan, which depicts a warrior, and for the first time in color. 50 years later, in 1730, in the Znamenny coat of arms one could find a detailed description of the coat of arms that was located on the banner of the Ryazan infantry regiment. In 1779, Empress Catherine II approved the coats of arms of the cities of the Ryazan governorship, as well as the heraldic symbol of Ryazan.
