Armenia attracts travelers with its amazing nature - rivers and lakes, vineyards and pomegranate gardens, mountains and valleys. In addition, do not miss the chance to visit the waterfalls of Armenia, of which there are about 30 in the country (15 of them are endowed with the status of “hydrogeographic natural monuments”).
Shaki waterfall
In the place where the 18-meter waterfall is located (it is formed from the Shaki River), travelers will discover gorges, rock niches and relatively deep grottoes (here you can get acquainted with evidence of the existence of ancient people - this is proved by their found traces dating back to the ancient Stone Age).
Kasakh waterfall
The location of this 70-meter waterfall is the Kasakh River. Its waters crash against numerous rapids and crash down into a deep gorge. Tourists from various countries come to see this miracle of nature with their own eyes. In addition, in the vicinity of the waterfall there is an opportunity to explore the monastery.
Jermuk waterfall
The 68-meter waterfall (located at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level; high-quality mineral water is produced from its various sources) is located near the Jermuk health resort (treatment is carried out on the basis of 40 therapeutic hot springs; the resort has a drinking gallery).
It is worth noting that tourists are often offered to go on an excursion involving a visit to Jermuk, the Gndevank monastery (it is surrounded by a fortress wall; the refectory, utility rooms, chambers of abbots, gravestones of the 10-13th centuries have been preserved here) and the Dark Fortress cave. In addition, the guide will surely tell the legend about why Jermuk waterfall is called “Mermaid Waterfall” or “Maiden's Braids”. The girl's father did not allow her to meet with her lover (every night she lowered him a rope into the gorge) and declared that, disobeying him, she would be turned into a mermaid. Once, instead of a rope, she pulled her hair down to her betrothed, after which she immediately turned into a mermaid, and her curls descended from the cliff in water streams …
Trchkan
The 22-meter waterfall (water falls at an angle of 90˚) is “fed” from the Chichkhan River (those who want to fish can catch trout). You can admire it both in summer and in winter, when it freezes completely (for this feature, it was nicknamed "The Ice Queen"), turning into a unique natural miracle.
Khachakhbyur
You can observe the cascades of this 20-meter waterfall, located at an altitude of more than 1100 m above sea level, from above, as well as from below, from the side of the nearby caves (this natural phenomenon can be viewed from different angles).
