The original name of this city is Yekaterinodar, and it was named in honor of the great Russian empress, who put her hands to the foundation of the settlement, which occupied the territory along the right bank of the Kuban. In Soviet times, the city received a new name, but the history of Krasnodar did not become less eventful from this.
Ancient times
Archaeologists within the boundaries of modern Krasnodar have discovered an ancient settlement that existed before our era. Therefore, it is unlikely that anyone will succeed in briefly describing the history of Krasnodar, especially if we start from the moment the first inhabitants appeared.
Scientists claim that it was one of the ancient cities of the Bosporus kingdom, and not far from it was the palace-castle of King Arifarn. The first inhabitants were probably Sarmatians, Scythians and Meots.
New era - new city
Catherine II in June 1792 issued a Charter to the so-called Black Sea Cossack army, as a result - exactly a year later, a military camp was founded on the site of modern Krasnodar. Very soon it turned into a fortress, and then gradually residential quarters began to be built. A new settlement appeared on the map of the Russian Empire - Yekaterinodar.
For 70 years the city has grown significantly in size, the authorities of the newly formed Kuban region were located here, later, in 1867, it acquired the status of a city. The transformation of the city into a solid transport and industrial center was facilitated by the railway, which passed through Yekaterinodar and connected Tikhoretsk with Novorossiysk.
XX century - the capital of the White South
End of XIX – XX cent. became a time of further prosperity of the city. Unfortunately, the First World War left a terrible mark on the history of Yekaterinodar, no less sad were the events associated with the October Revolution and the Bolsheviks who came to power. True, the city did not immediately turn red, on the contrary, during the Civil War it received the unspoken name of the capital of the White South.
This large, commercial and industrial center was in the zone of attention of the Bolsheviks, White Guards, and local bandits who dreamed of snatching their piece of the revolutionary pie. Therefore, rarely anyone succeeds in briefly telling about these years in the history of Krasnodar. Only in 1920 was the Soviet power established in the city.
From this moment, a new countdown in history begins, which changed the name, reminiscent of imperial Russia, to Krasnodar. The life of the Soviet city had its own joyful and sad pages, as well as in the life of the country. Today it is one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Russia, looking confidently into the future.
