The official symbols of individual Russian cities amaze with their splendor, abundance of colors and elements, and the desire to unite time. The coat of arms of the Rostov region belongs to such images, it is complex in composition, has symbols that are associated with the historical Don regalia, the Russian Empire, and Soviet times.
Description of the coat of arms of the region
The modern coat of arms of the Rostov region consists of elements typical of ancient European heraldic symbols. In the image of the official symbol of this southern region of Russia, the following stand out:
- a shield, divided into fields, each with its own elements;
- a supporter in the form of a two-headed Russian eagle;
- flags of the Rostov region in the frame of the shield;
- sash, a symbol of the Soviet era.
The traditional French shape has been chosen for the shield. It is divided vertically into three fields, colored in shades of blue, with the central field shown in a lighter color.
In this field there is a blue wavy belt, a symbol of the region's water resources, above it is an image of a red brick fortress with three towers, a kind of southern outpost of Russia. Below the wavy belt there is a golden ear, as a symbol of the main branch of agriculture in the region.
The elements located in the lateral fields of the shield are interesting, they are associated with the Cossacks and represent the elements of weapons - bunchuk, pernach, incisions, a silver mace.
Another feature of the coat of arms of the Rostov region is associated with the shield holder, firstly, this is one character, and not two, as is customary in heraldry, and secondly, the choice is unusual - a two-headed eagle, a symbol of the Russian Empire, crowned with three crowns, the central one is supplemented with an azure ribbon.
Historical realities
On any modern color photo, the region's coat of arms looks simply amazing. In the old days, its color palette could only be judged by descriptions and illustrations. At the heart of the modern heraldic symbol is the historical coat of arms, and a kind of region, - the Region of the Don army (1878).
There are not so many differences - there was no ear on the shield, instead of the banners of the region there were the Imperial banners. The ribbon of the Order of Lenin from the modern image, it is clear that it appeared quite recently, on the old coat of arms the banners were connected by the Andreevskaya ribbon. During the Soviet era, such a heraldic symbol could not be used; it was put into effect in October 1996.
