Soon after the founding of the People's Republic of China in the 50s of the last century, on the site of the old "Garden of Ten Thousand Animals", a zoo was born in Beijing, which today has become one of the main and favorite attractions of the capital of the Celestial Empire. Historians claim that plants and animals were bred at this site during the Qing dynasty, which ruled China since the 15th century.

Western Fringe Park

Having received this name, the Beijing Zoo, located in the western part of the city, adequately represents on its vast territory the rich fauna and flora of Central and Southeast Asia. Decorated in the tradition of classical Chinese landscape design, the zoo invites you to stroll through manicured groves and lush gardens, admire the purest lakes with blooming lotus and meditate to the measured sound of small waterfalls near mountain streams.

Pride and achievement

More than 7000 animals, representing 600 species, inhabit the spacious enclosures of the Beijing Zoo today. The real pride of its organizers is the giant panda, which is the national symbol of the Middle Kingdom and flaunts on the emblem of the WWF Wildlife Fund. Australian kangaroos, African zebras and Manchurian tigers have also become favorites of the public, and the Beijing Aquarium, which opened in 1999, is the largest in the country. The water arena regularly hosts shows with seals and dolphins.

How to get there?

The zoo is located in the Xicheng district in the western part of the city, opposite the Astronomical Observatory.

In order not to get lost in the hieroglyphs, you should be guided by the address of the zoo on the map - it is located at the corner of Xizhimen Outer Street and Dongwuyuan Road.

You can get to the Beijing Zoo by taking subway line 4 trains from Beijing Zoo Station.
