The idea of opening the Prague Zoo was first published in newspapers in 1881. In honor of the wedding of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and Princess Stephanie of Belgium, it was decided to establish a zoological garden in the Czech Republic. It opened only half a century later in 1931 and since then has repeatedly entered the top ten best zoos in the world.

ZOO Praha

A favorite vacation spot for Prague children and their parents is located in the municipality of Troja. The address of the zoo is U Trojského zámku 3/120.

Its area covers about 58 hectares, and there are more than 4200 guests, moreover, a fifth of the 650 species of animals represented are listed as rare and endangered.

One of the main achievements of the park's employees is a significant contribution to the preservation of the unique Przewalski's horse. For many years, steppe horses were bred here and helped them not to disappear forever.

Today the name of the Prague Zoo can tell a lot to fellow biologists. For example, lizards from Komodo Island are bred here and interesting research is carried out aimed at preserving the rarest giant Chinese salamanders. The first gorilla in Western Europe was born in the capital of the Czech Republic, and in 2013 a baby elephant was born.

How to get there?

To get to the zoo, everyone will need the red line of the Prague metro and the Nadrazi Holesovice station. Exit along the escalator will lead to the bus station, from which the daily paid bus 112 and the free "ZOO Praha", which runs on holidays and weekends, leave.
