A small Islamic country has been at the center of the entire planet for many decades. The reason for this is the ongoing wars for power in the country, the participation of Soviet troops and the army of the United States of America in them. At the same time, the coat of arms of Afghanistan, which appeared almost from the moment of the formation of the state, is quite peaceful, in contrast to the national symbols of other countries.
Long history and iconic symbols
The image of the coat of arms of the Emirate of Afghanistan, which appeared in 1901, is similar to the modern symbol of the country, the main elements of which are:
- a symbolic image of Mecca;
- a mosque with a mihrab;
- prayer mat;
- national flags;
- a wreath of ears of wheat;
- the inscription is the so-called shihada.
On the one hand, the color palette is very restrained. The coat of arms is completely made in gold color. The only elements that differ in color are the flags of the state, painted in the national colors.
Symbols of Islam
The coat of arms of Afghanistan reflects the main sacred symbols of Muslims, including Mecca, which is considered the main city of Islam, the center of Muslim pilgrimage. In reality, the settlement is located on the territory of Saudi Arabia.
Another symbol of the Muslim religion that is present on the main Afghan symbol is the mosque. A part of a religious building with a mihrab, a niche in the wall, which is usually decorated with columns, is depicted. In the mihrab, the imam, the leader of the namaz, is praying.
Another important detail of the coat of arms is a prayer rug, without which a Muslim cannot be imagined. This subject is of great importance in the traditional culture of Muslims. Coming to the house of a Christian, a representative of the Islamic faith, sitting on his rug, remains, as it were, on his territory.
Friendship with the Soviet Union
Over the past several centuries, the coat of arms of Afghanistan has changed many times. Most often, the changes were minor, a radically new official symbol of the country appeared when the Soviet Union appeared as a friend.
In 1980, the coat of arms of Afghanistan appeared, which with its outlines and elements very much resembles the main symbols of the union republics. For example, a rising sun, a red five-pointed star crowning the composition, or a wreath of ears of wheat with an intertwined ribbon painted in the colors of the national flag. In 1987, the star disappeared, which symbolized a change in the country's foreign policy.
