Poland is one of Russia's closest neighbors, and many routes to Europe run through its territory. It serves most often as a transit zone, bypassing which a Russian tourist sets off to conquer the Old World. But the culture of Poland, its architectural and historical monuments deserve special attention, and therefore a vacation spent in Warsaw or Krakow is a great way to get acquainted with the magnificent examples of the achievements of human genius.
Before and after Mickiewicz
Polish literature is one of the most influential and ancient literature in the world today. The first texts that have come down to us date back to at least the 13th century, and the Renaissance period gave the world the works of Jan Kokhanovsky and Ignatius Krasicki.
Poland is proud of its great writer Adam Mickiewicz, whose novel Pan Tadeusz has become a true example of a golden literary heritage. Mickiewicz generously passed on his experience to students who preserved and augmented the traditions of Polish culture. In 1896 G. Senkevich received the Nobel Prize for his work "Kamo Gryadeshi" and his contribution to world literature, and a few years later V. Reymont repeated his success by publishing the novel "The Peasants".
Great genius Matejko
Polish painting - these are many bright names that have glorified their homeland over the centuries. But the most talented and original on this list invariably seems to be Jan Matejko - the author of not only historical and battle paintings, as reference books say about him. The culture of Poland would not have developed exactly like this without the magnificent stained glass windows based on its motives, which adorn many churches and cathedrals.
Art critics consider his "History of Polish Costume" to be an indisputable achievement and creative success of Matejko. Still very young Matejko made sketches and sketches on everyday topics every day. Later, he systematized the drawings and the world was a huge work, telling and showing a whole historical era.
Architectural masterpieces
The authoritative international organization UNESCO highly appreciated the importance of the architectural heritage in the culture of Poland and highlighted a number of buildings to be protected:
- The historical center of old Krakow, many of which were built in the XIV century.
- The old center of Warsaw, whose buildings date back to the end of the 13th century.
- Teutonic castle located in Malbork.
- Wooden churches from the early Middle Ages in Southern Lesser Poland.
- The old quarters of the cities of Zamosc and Torun.
