The Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, however, like some EU countries, it uses its own currency. The national currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech crown. This currency began to be used after the collapse of Czechoslovakia in 1993, before that the main currency of the country was the Czechoslovakian crown. Money in the Czech Republic is circulated in the form of coins and banknotes. There are coins of 10 and 20 hellers (100 hellers = 1 crown), 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 crowns. There are also banknotes of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 kroons. It should be said that previously, banknotes in denominations of 20 and 50 kroons were used, but they were removed from circulation in 2007 and 2011, respectively. This decision was made due to the fact that coins are stored much longer than banknotes, therefore, the exclusion of banknotes of this denomination from circulation made it possible to reduce the costs associated with the circulation of money in the Czech Republic.
What currency to take to the Czech Republic
The most convenient currency that can be taken to the Czech Republic is the euro. The exchange rate in relation to this particular currency is the most stable and stable. For example, in 2014 the price fluctuated between 27, 32 and 27, 90 kroons per 1 euro. Of course, there are exchange offices in the country that allow you to exchange any foreign currency for local currency, but you should take into account the losses due to an unfavorable exchange rate. For example, when exchanging a ruble for a kroon, you can lose about 10-15%.
The import of currency into the Czech Republic is unlimited, however, as well as export. There is only a small addition - when importing or exporting an amount over 10 thousand euros, you must fill out a declaration.

There are a large number of ATMs in the Czech Republic, in addition to this, many services can be paid with a card. We must not forget about the commission for card transactions, it can be from 0.5% for purchases with a card and from 3% for cash withdrawals and other transactions at an ATM. Also, some ATMs can withdraw additional money for checking the card balance. All this information must be checked with the bank that issued the plastic card.
