The Baltic is a geographical area located in the northern part of Europe. It includes three independent states - Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia - and the Kaliningrad region, which belongs to the Russian Federation. The question of which sea washes the Baltic can be answered in different ways: either name the Baltic, or list its bays - Kaliningrad, Riga, Curonian and Finnish.

Baltic Sea coastline

In the region of the Kaliningrad Bay, low-lying lands predominate, and coastal areas, due to their location below sea level, are often subject to flooding. Local villages and towns are protected from flooding by dams, and the bay itself is quite shallow.

The Curonian Lagoon, stretching between the Kaliningrad region and Lithuania, is famous for its spit, which is considered a unique natural site. The best beach resorts in Lithuania are located here. The length of the Curonian Spit is almost 100 kilometers, and its width in some areas reaches almost four kilometers. In total, the Baltic Sea is 97 kilometers of the Lithuanian border.

In Latvia, the Baltic is washed by almost five hundred kilometers of coastline, and the beaches here are distinguished by their special cleanliness and magnificent relief. Sand dunes and pine forests form the basis of the coast. The main Latvian resort Jurmala is located on the coast of the Gulf of Riga, the western part of which - the Livsky coast - belongs to nature conservation areas.

The coastline of the Baltic Sea in Estonia is characterized by a huge number of archipelagos and individual islands and the greatest length - at least 3800 kilometers. Narrow bays and bays are often found here.
