Going to Mexico to inspect the Mayan pyramids, admire the exotic nature, do not forget about shopping and buying nice souvenirs. It should be remembered that good things cannot be cheap, especially for products sold under well-known brands in Mexico - most likely, these are unlicensed products, which can be taken away by customs.

Where can I buy

  • In Playa del Carmen, a concentration of boutiques with clothes, various souvenirs, and locally produced footwear is located on Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue), there is also a gallery of shops "Paseo del Carmen" where you can buy branded items at reasonable prices.
  • Tequila House is a tourist shop where you can buy anything you want - key chains, blankets, silver, clothes, etc. Special attention should be paid to the alcohol section - the richest choice, the prices for tequila - from 5 to 400 dollars per bottle, and you can try all varieties.
  • The chain stores of leather goods "Weari" are distinguished by the fact that in some stores you can bargain, and even very successfully, while in others the sellers will not give up even a peso. Bags, gloves, wallets, shoes here are made of ostrich, crocodile, python skin. The most expensive products are ostrich leather.
  • In Cancun, the main shopping center is La Isla shopping center, in addition to shops, it has a water park and a dolphinarium, and also a tourist place - the Mercado 28 market, with many shops, stalls and cafes. Antara Polanco Shopping Center, La Ciudadela and Bazar del Sabado Markets in Mexico City offer a wide range of crafts and international brands.

What to buy

  • Women bring silver items from Mexico - not very cheap, but quite exclusive. In shops at hotels and on the streets, for example, earrings with ornamental stones will cost you from 40 to 200 dollars, necklaces + earrings - 400-450, bracelets - from 130 to 500. Many offer silverware and accessories - also at high prices. Please note - in a store with a license, silver must be 925 sterling. If you buy silver jewelry on the market, be careful - these are often fakes of silver plated metal.
  • In addition to Mexico, you will not find sweets, marshmallows and other cactus sweets anywhere else; you can buy them in the shops of shopping centers and in the market. Salsa sauce, a national seasoning for many dishes, will become a tasty part of Mexico.
  • Colorful handicrafts made of wood, clay, expensive and very beautiful obsidian products with mother-of-pearl inlay are made by hand, often in a single copy - they will become a wonderful reminder of Mexico.

You will probably be offered goods made from tortoiseshell and sea shells, but it is better to admire them and not buy them, their export from the country is prohibited.
