Description of the attraction
The Gudauri (Cross) Pass is one of the natural attractions of the city of Gudauri. The pass is located in the most picturesque valley of the Aragvi river and leads from the Terek river valley to the Aragvi river valley. West of the pass is the Kelskoe volcanic plateau.
The Cross Pass got its name from the large stone cross installed here in 1824, which served as a designation point for the pass. This cross was seen in due time by M. Yu. Lermontov, A. S. Pushkin and A. S. Griboyedov.
The most beautiful road among the picturesque mountains follows the ancient historical path that connects the Transcaucasia and the North Caucasus through the Darial Gorge. Today it is the Georgian Military Highway Vladikavkaz - Tbilisi. The track is 208 km long and is one of the most difficult in the world. For tourists, unexpected avalanches, heavy snowfalls and winds, as well as quite busy traffic are fraught with dangers. Despite this, travelers will find an amazing landscape and many historical sights here.
