Description of the attraction

Manerba del Garda is a quiet resort town on the western shore of Lake Garda, located in the Valtenesi Valley. According to the latest census, a little more than 4 thousand people live in it. The name of the town, apparently, comes from the name of the goddess Minerva.

The first people appeared on the territory of modern Manerba in the Mesolithic era, but, perhaps, the most important finds are those that belong to the era of Ancient Rome and date back to the 1st century BC - these are the ruins of ancient Roman villas. In the Middle Ages, Rocca was built in the town - a powerful fortress, for the right of ownership of which the Guelphs and Ghibellines fought, and later the Brescians and Veronese. When Manerba became part of the Venetian Republic in the 15th century, its fortress had long ceased to serve for military purposes. The Venetians were the masters of these lands until 1796, when Napoleon's troops appeared here. Then the city became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Today the economy of Manerba is based on the production of excellent wines - Chiaretto, Rosso, Rosso Superiore. At the same time, fishing and, of course, tourism remain an important source of income for the townspeople - the resort is especially popular among the residents of Brescia. In the Pieve Vecchia area, you can visit the old church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 5th century, but significantly modified in the 11th century. Another interesting church - Santa Lucia - stands in the Balbiana area, and in Solarolo it is worth visiting the churches of San Giovanni Decollato and Santissima Trinita. The medieval Rocca fortress, towering above the city and offering visitors excellent views of the surrounding area, deserves a special mention. From there, you can see the island of San Biagio, located directly opposite the coast of Manerba.

Near the town there is a golf club "Garda Golf Club", where you can play golf. Also during the summer, you can go on a small cruise along the coast and enjoy water skiing.
