Description of the attraction
Moena is a ski resort in the Italian Val di Fassa in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, which is becoming more and more popular from year to year. Locals love to tell a beautiful legend about the origin of the name of their town. They say that in ancient times in the Dolomites there lived the king of dwarfs Laurino, who had an amazing garden with wonderful roses, presented to him by the sorceress Sitleb. Laurino loved a simple girl named Moena, but the beauty did not reciprocate for a long time. And then the king kidnapped the obstinate and imprisoned her in his rose garden. Legend has it that over time, Moena was imbued with feelings for her kidnapper, married him and gave birth to three children. But once the sorceress Sitleb brought Moena's father to the rose garden, who challenged the king to a duel and defeated him. Frustrated, Laurino, in a rage, turned his beautiful garden into formidable mountain peaks. Since then, these mountains, once roses, turn pink at sunset - this sight is especially picturesque in the town of Moena, which was named after the beautiful princess.
Today Moena is an increasingly popular ski resort, which often surprises its guests … the lack of lifts! The closest one is located 10 minutes' drive from the town, since you can get to it on a free ski-bus. Officially, Moena belongs to the Tre Valli ski area, which consists of four ski areas - Alpe Lucia, San Pellegrino, Bellamonte and Falcade. The total length of local trails is about 27 km, of which 15 km are blue, suitable for beginners, 7 km - to red, and 4.5 km - to difficult black. The slopes are serviced by 8 modern lifts. Moena also has a boarder-ross trail, several ski schools, including one for children, the Babylandia snow playground and a park for snowboarders. Those who wish can easily get to the other resorts of Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme.
Moena is a very picturesque town, especially attractive on winter evenings, when it is surrounded by lights and decorated with illuminated ice and snow sculptures. Some old houses and churches also stand out for their illumination. Perhaps only the famous "pink" sunset can compete with this splendor. In general, Moena attracts with its cozy atmosphere hidden in the mountains of the village - the historical center of the city with its cathedral, medieval buildings and bridges does not go unnoticed by tourists. You should definitely visit one of the many bars or restaurants in the town and try the local delicacy - cheese "Pozzone di Moena", the name of which can be translated as "Moena stinker". Despite the peculiar smell, the cheese has an unusual taste.
