Description of the attraction
“If the king is water, then I am the forest. The forest expresses its devotion to water”: words of Queen Sirikit, December 20, 1982. The Botanical Gardens Organization of Thailand was established in 1992 to commemorate Her Majesty's 60th birthday, and in 1994 the Queen gave permission to use her name in the title. The main mission of the organization is to preserve Thailand's invaluable plant resources.
The Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden is located on the two mountains Doi Pui and Doi Suthep on the territory of the National Park of the same name, 27 km from the northern capital of Chiang Mai. The vegetated mountains provide themselves with water all year round and provide excellent conditions for the growth of all kinds of plants.
You can endlessly list all the species collected in this northern oasis. A huge number of exotic, medicinal and most beautiful plants in Thailand and neighboring countries have been collected on an area of 2,600 acres of forest space.
Here is the largest collection of orchids in the world, previously grown in the wild: 350 species of these amazingly beautiful flowers create a truly fabulous feeling.
The Botanical Garden is not only a collection of various plants and a place for recreation, but also research and development centers are located on its territory. The garden is home to many rare and endangered plant species characteristic of Thailand, and highly qualified specialists are constantly working to protect and study them. The extensive library makes this location ideal for students studying conservation and ecology.
There are three specially designed walking trails in the botanical garden, as well as the opportunity to walk in wild, unspoiled nature if you feel like it. Due to the fact that it is located in the National Park, nature reigns around the garden, and not a bustling city. It can take an entire day to inspect the entire royal collection, so in order to avoid haste, a visit to the garden should be planned in advance.
