Description of the attraction
In the suburb of Blanes, on the Costa Brava, there is another famous Spanish botanical garden "Mar and Murtra". Located on a steep hill directly above the seashore, the garden covers an area of 15 thousand square meters. meters and amazes with a variety of vegetation. In total, more than 4 thousand species of various plants grow here, divided into three separate zones - the zone of the temperate zone, subtropics and the Mediterranean.
The Mar and Murtra garden was founded by the German botanist Karl Faust, who in 1918 acquired a plot of land in the Blanes region. Beginning in 1924, Faust, leaving his main activity, devoted all his time to the formation of a botanical garden on this territory. From the moment of its foundation to the present day, one of the activities of the garden is scientific development and research aimed at preserving endangered plant species and increasing the existing collections. On the territory of the botanical garden there are greenhouses, a meteorological station, a research laboratory, a library.
In the botanical garden "Mar and Murtra" you will see magnificent collections of conifers, represented by firs, cedars, cypresses, collections of cacti and succulents, medicinal plants, exotic plants.
Viewpoints are set up in the garden right above the seafront, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Costa Brava.
Garden "Mar and Murtra" is a member of the Association for the Conservation of Botanical Gardens. The Catalan government recently awarded the Mar and Murtra Botanical Gardens the status of a National Cultural Monument.
