Description of the attraction
The Museum of Sculpture by I. Pinzel has found its place in the list of Lviv attractions. The museum is housed in the building of the former Clarice convent, designed by the architect Paul the Roman. Since the late 70s, the museum has acted as an exhibition hall for contemporary art.
Museum workers in the 60s and 70s of the last century made many expeditions, as a result of which a collection of baroque sculptures was collected. In the years when the huge cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people was sentenced to extermination, the staff of the museum saved about two thousand works of art from certain death. In the Museum of Baroque Sacred Sculpture by Johann Pinzel, that part of the legacy of the renowned master, which managed to survive, is preserved.
The sculptor Johann Pinzel, far from the generally recognized centers of culture and capitals, became the creator of the original plastic in the world art of that era. In the late 50s of the 18th century, Pinzel created a sculptural ensemble in the Lviv Cathedral of St. Yura and worked in the Church of St. Martin. Among the works presented in the museum, there is also the most striking work of Pinzel in terms of the power of emotional impact - the altar of the church with. Years near Lviv (sculptures "Samson" and "Sacrifice of Abraham").
For the first time, the works of John Pinzel were exhibited in 1987 at the Odessa Castle Museum, which is a branch of the Lvov Art Gallery. The following year, the exhibition was brought to the halls of the Moscow Academy of Arts. Then - a trip to Prague in 1989, then there were Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznan … The greatest contribution to the study of the work of master Pinzel and the preservation of his heritage was made by the director of the Lviv Picture Gallery Boris Voznitsky.
