Description of the attraction
The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts is Western Australia's premier venue for visual arts exhibitions and performances by a variety of cultural groups. Located in a building of cultural and historical value, PICA serves to promote contemporary art to the masses. The building, built in 1896, for the first 40 years of its history was an urban school for boys and girls, then a school for boys only (until 1958), part of a technical school and finally, in 1988, it became an exhibition center.
Throughout the year, PICA hosts a variety of events - exhibitions, performances, film screenings, presentations and much more. It also implements educational programs designed to strengthen the relationship between art and the public. Today, PICA plays a key role in the public cultural life of Perth, helping artists at various stages of their careers.
