Description of the attraction
The bronze statue of Nike, the goddess of victory, installed in the People's Heroes Park in Kavala on Eleftheriou Venizelu Street, directly opposite the City Hall, symbolizes the struggle of the Greeks for their freedom from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century. The sculptor, author and performer of the project created in 1970 is Janis Parmakelis. In addition, there is a large marble relief - a memorial to the memory of all the heroes who fought against the occupation of Greece in different periods, made by Dionysis Gerolymatos.
Dense vegetation, tall trees, outdoor cafes create pleasant shade and tranquility. The square is almost always full in summer and is a favorite meeting place for city residents in the evenings. The park houses several busts of Greek heroes and a marble monument to Alexander the Great.
For travelers, this is a good resting place while waiting for a bus or ferry.
