Description of the attraction
Elvorti plant is one of the oldest and largest European agricultural machinery factories, specializing in the production of seeders. The factory was founded in 74 of the 19th century by the English brothers Elvorti. From a small handicraft workshop that assembles, adjusts and prepares machines imported from England, the enterprise has grown into a large agricultural machinery manufacturing facility. The success of the plant, where in the pre-revolutionary period most of the residents of Kirovograd (at that time Elisavetgrad) worked, contributed to the development of the city and its infrastructure. The enterprise was called Elvorti plant until 1919, later it became known as "The first state machine-building plant of the city of Elizavetgrad". Still later - by the "Third Agricultural Engineering Plant". And, finally, “Krasnaya Zvezda”, whose products are known on all continents. During the Great Patriotic War, the plant was redesigned for the manufacture of shells, mines, mortars and other military equipment. Military products accounted for over 90% of the total production volume.
On Kavaleriyskaya Street, not far from the railway line, at the end of the 70s. In the 19th century, the Elvorti brothers built an excellent residential building, which is now an architectural and historical monument. After the nationalization of the Elvorti enterprise in 1919, the house was given over to the factory management, telephone exchange and other factory services. In the 90s of the last century, the restoration and overhaul of the Elvorti house was carried out, after which the museum of the plant was opened in it, which today has over 3,500 fascinating exhibits.
