Description of the attraction
The Thoma mountain lake is located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden at an altitude of 2345 meters above sea level, near the Pitz Badus mountain, near the Oberalppass pass. It is assumed that its name comes from the Latin word "tumba", which literally means "grave" or "pit".
He lived in this area from 1752 to 1833. the clergyman Placidus Spesha wrote: “This lake, 200 steps wide and 400 steps long, is the bowl from which the Rhine flows. This wonderful area is truly worthy to become the source of such a majestic river. It is here that the Rhine, which flows through 4 countries and is considered one of the largest rivers in Europe, can literally be stepped over before its waters embark on a journey of 1,320 kilometers.
There are many hiking trails around the lake. Lilies and alpine roses bloom along these paths. On its eastern coast there are spreading meadows overgrown with cotton grass - a special variety of sedge, during the flowering of which, in August, the coast is wrapped in an airy fluffy shawl.
There are also ruins nearby, consisting of huge stones, which are willingly used by tourists for picnics.
One of the most famous routes is called Kraftorte Rute, which starts at the Oberalp Pass, goes around the lake and returns to the starting point. Ascents and ascents, waters and rocks, mountains and swamps - tourists jokingly call this route "all inclusive", and they are not so wrong.
