Description of the attraction

The Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) is the second largest hydroelectric power plant in Russia. It is located on the Yenisei River, 40 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk, not far from the town of Divnogorsk. The Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station is part of the Yenisei cascade of hydroelectric power stations.

The construction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station began in 1956 and ended in 1972. The project for the hydroelectric power station was developed by the Leningrad branch of the Institute "Gidroenergoproekt" (today JSC "Lengidroproekt"). The HPP complex includes the only ship lift in the country. The average long-term output of the hydroelectric power station is 18.4 billion kWh, which on average covers about half of the needs of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for electricity.

In the area of the section of the hydroelectric complex, the river valley takes the form of a canyon with a width along the water's edge up to 750 m. The riverbed and steep banks of the river are made of hard rocks, which serve as the basis for a high dam.

Dam of hydroelectric power station of gravity type. Its total length along the ridge is about 1072.5 m. The maximum height of the channel section is 128 m (average - 117 m). The total weight of the dam is 15 million tons. In the station part of the dam there are water conduits in the form of metal pipes with a diameter of 7.5 m, through which water is supplied to the turbine. The capacity of the machine room is twelve hydraulic units. The generator receives mechanical energy from the water from the turbine. After that, the generator converts it into electricity, which is transmitted through bus ducts to step-up transformers, and then to the outdoor switchgear and through transmission lines, electricity is supplied to consumers.

The operation of the units is continuously monitored by the central control panel - the "brain center" of the hydroelectric power plant. On the left bank there is a longitudinally inclined ship lift with a so-called rotary device. Transportation of vessels is carried out using a self-propelled vessel chamber. The dam of the hydroelectric power station forms the Krasnoyarsk reservoir.

The Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station is the most visited attraction in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
