Description of the attraction

The Greek Children's Museum is located in the central Plaka area of Athens. The museum was opened in 1987 and is dedicated to the creativity of children aged 4 to 12 years. This museum was created not only for the children themselves, but also for parents, teachers and everyone who is interested in the diversified development of children.

The museum was founded on the private initiative of a group of young scientists led by Sofia Rok-Mela, a teacher with a musical education. The main goal of the museum is to provide children with the opportunity to learn about the world through play and the objects around us, making the most of all five senses. The museum hosts a variety of themed classes, exhibitions and educational workshops. The themes are developed taking into account the interests and needs of children, using improvised means, audio and video materials. These are theatrical performances, and culinary classes, and logic games, and lessons in fine arts, and many other useful and interesting topics. Classes give children the opportunity to explore, experiment, think, create and develop their potential. Particular attention is paid to the organization of cultural and educational programs for children with disabilities.

The museum displays many works created by children, and the exhibition is constantly updated. Here you can see a collection of African children's toys donated to the museum by Save the World. An interesting exhibit is the collection of the first drawings on paper by children from the small Pakistani village of Kalash.

The Greek Children's Museum is a non-profit organization of public interest for educational and cultural purposes. The museum is a member of the International Council of Museums and the European Association of Children's Museums.
