Description of the attraction
Albufeira, a seaport city in the south of Portugal, is the most popular city in the Algarve. The city attracts with its historical monuments, vast beaches and beautiful surrounding landscapes. Albufeira is considered the most popular resort city in Portugal; the city began to develop actively in this direction in the early 60s. Albufeira was built on the site of a fishing village. The name of the city comes from the Arabic "Al-Bukhera", which means "castle over the sea". During the Lisbon earthquake in 1755, Albufeira suffered more damage than other cities in southern Portugal. Most of the city's buildings were completely destroyed, the city was rebuilding slowly and for a long time.
Albufeira has an amusement park with an aquarium of about 8 hectares.
