Description of the attraction

In the north of Spain, almost in the center of the Pyrenees Mountains, there is the amazing Aigüestortes Natural Park. The main part of the park, which has national status, occupies an area of just over 14 thousand hectares with elevation differences from 1000 to 3000 meters above sea level. The park was founded in 1955 and is the only national natural park in Catalonia.

The park is rightfully considered the true heritage of the country. Here it was possible to preserve in the wild all the richness of flora and fauna characteristic of this region. The flora and fauna represented in the park are due to the location of most of it at an altitude of more than 1000 meters above sea level. As you climb the steep slopes of the Iberian Ridge, the meadows lying at their foot give way to deciduous forests at low altitudes, turn into evergreen at medium altitudes and end in high-mountain pastures. Deciduous forests are represented mainly by fluffy oak, ash and hazel. At an altitude of 1500-200 meters, mainly black pines and spruces grow, in places illuminated by the sun, junipers are found. Mountain ash, blueberry and rhododendron can also be seen here. On alpine pastures at an altitude of more than 2300 meters, the flora is represented mainly by alpine vegetation, such as various gentian species, buttercups. Representatives of the fauna inhabiting the park are mainly chamois, ermines, martens, squirrels, deer and many bird species.

In addition to the richness of the flora, admiring the brightness of colors, and the majestic rocky peaks, which are breathtaking to look at, the nature of the Aigüestortes Park amazes with the beauty of crystal mountain rivers, glacial lakes and magnificent waterfalls.
