Description of the attraction
Mount Steghorn is located in the Bernese Alps between the Engstligenalp high plateau and the Gemmipass. Steghorn is included in the list of the Swiss three-thousanders and its height is 3146 meters above sea level.
In mountaineering circles, this massif is considered one of the easiest in terms of climbing. The easiest route starts from the Lemmerenhütte hut, located on the side of a mountain in the Valais canton. But most of the athletes prefer to follow the trail, which originates in the high plateau Etgstligenalp and continues along the ridge between Steghorn and Wildstrubel. According to the international classification system SAC, the route from Lemmerhütte, passing further through the Steghorn Glacier, has a degree of difficulty L.
Climbing the Steghorn is also possible in the winter season. The ski route originates at Engstlingenalp, but it is considered not the easiest in terms of difficulty and is recommended for only experienced athletes.
At the foot of the mountain there is the Steghorn restaurant, the menu of which is not very diverse, but it serves national cuisine. The most popular dish among the visitors is called "steghornplattly", which is a sliced cheese and sausages of local production and served on a rough wooden board. On Fridays and Saturdays, the owners of the restaurant organize a gala dinner, during which they willingly communicate with their guests. And if someone becomes sorry to leave such a hospitable place, he can stay here for the night, staying in an apartment adjacent to the restaurant.
