Description of the attraction

Serra do Catimbau is a national park located in the state of Pernambuco. It was formed in 2002. Currently, the total area of Serra do Catimbau is 62,300 hectares. The park is included in the list of areas of Brazil with special biological importance. The reason for this was the Kaatinga section, located on its territory, which has survived to this day.

Another distinctive feature of the national park is the artifacts and rock carvings from the prehistoric era of Brazil. The approximate age of most of the artifacts found on the territory of Serra do Catimbau is about 6,000 years. Currently, archaeologists have discovered more than 30 historical monuments in the park. Therefore, the territory of Serra do Catimbau is deservedly called the archaeological park of Brazil, the second after Serra da Capivara.

Speaking of kaatinga, a little clarification is worth making. The territory of Caatinga is represented by a white forest (in Portuguese, Caatinga is translated as "white forest"). The total area of caatinga in the country is 750,000 sq. Km. This is approximately 11% of the entire Brazilian territory. Often, these areas are engaged in raising cattle and plant growing (grapes, melon, papaya). Sometimes it happens that in the areas of Kaatinga severe drought occurs.

In general, the territory of Kaatinga is in many ways similar to the African savannah. The reason for this similarity was the geographic location. Karting is in the zone of 2 seasons: dry, lasting up to nine months, and rainy, which lasts about three months. Rainfall is irregular here. Therefore, almost all areas of Kaatinga are constantly in need of reservoirs, desalination plants and a modern irrigation system.

As for the flora, it is dominated by undersized deciduous trees, cacti, succulents, dead grasses and thorny shrubs.
