Description of the attraction

JSC RUTA is the oldest Lithuanian company that specializes in the production of sweets of various varieties, shapes and tastes.

The historical development of the factory began in 1913 in the city of Siauliai. It was at this time that Antanas Gricevičius equipped a boiler for boiling caramel in a small room. The pioneers of the new enterprise were the owners of the rue - Antanas Gricevičius and his wife Józefa. The owner of the factory studied confectionery skills in the city of Siauliai, and he also attended classes in St. Petersburg and Vilnius. As soon as the first candies from Gricevičius appeared, almost all sweet tooths fell in love with them.

Over time, the candy factory grew in size and achievement, and by 1923 several additional brick buildings were built, while production expanded and improved at a rapid pace. The enterprise reached its main peak in the interwar period: then the factory employed about 160 workers and produced about 300 different types of sweets. The sweets produced by the RUTA factory were very popular due to the quality of the raw materials and the products themselves.

The extraordinary talent of the pastry chefs was highly appreciated not only at local, but also at international competitions and exhibitions of the Land Economy and Industry of Lithuania in 1922, 1926 and 1930 in the city of Kaunas, and in 1928 in Siauliai, gold medals were won. In 1929, the main prize and the gold medal were won in Italy, and in 1931, the gold medal was won in England.

In the period from 1940 to 1993, the factory was a state-owned enterprise. After the independence of Lithuania was restored, the former factory buildings, located on an area of 5 thousand square meters. meters were again transferred to the hands of the A. Gricevičius family. In autumn 2002, the RUTA factory of entrepreneur A. Gricevičius was transformed into a closed joint stock company. The candy factory was being restored rather slowly, although successfully, which required a lot of creativity, effort and patience of production workers.

At the moment, the company RUTA is a well-known company that carries not only old traditions, but also finds a place for modern newest technologies. The company can rightfully be proud of its long history of existence, as well as its well-deserved honorary name. Now RUTA is a medium-sized enterprise with 240 employees who work in seven workshops for the production of sweets, as well as a microbiological and technological laboratory, which are responsible for checking the quality of raw materials, semi-finished products and directly finished products. There are eleven brand shops of the factory in the largest cities of Lithuania.

RUTA plays an important role in building the assortment of the economic market. The production has unique recipes and original products. In its country, the factory is known under a brand that cares about the health of consumers of its products, using a large amount of natural plant raw materials in formulations, represented by fruits, berries, bee products and other raw materials. In addition, the factory offers organic sweets and sugar-free products. To create new formulations, close cooperation with Lithuanian scientists is underway. One of the most important activities of the factory is the production of ecological products, which is certified by the public "EcoAgros".

The RUTA factory produces sweets of various types: chocolates with various fillings, dragees, truffles, jelly candies, creams, soft caramel and many others. All these sweets are produced by industrial or manual labor. The candies of A. Gryacevicius' factory are popular in Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, Great Britain and other major countries of the world.

In the distant 1945, a 5-year-old Muscovite boy saw how unknown to me a man and a woman in soldier's greatcoats entered our communal apartment, dragging bags of sweets across the floor from which an unusual smell, As it turned out later, there were (trophy) caramel sweets in the bags, which were treated to us by the soldiers who returned from the war, I have remembered the extraordinary taste of these sweets for the rest of my life! Many years have passed (more than 60 years) and I, at one international exhibition held in Moscow dedicated to food, during negotiations at the table with Lithuanian specialists, smelled the unique smell of those sweets, I asked the experts what kind of sweets it was, it was caramel, RAMINANCHIOI, FACTORY, RUTA ! I accidentally kept a candy wrapper from this caramel with an address and I am sending you this curious story as evidence of the high quality of your products and the preservation of traditions!
