Description of the attraction
The Pura Jagatnakhta Temple was built in 1953 and is dedicated to the god Sanghyang Vidi Vasa. Sanghyang Vidi Vasa - the supreme deity, is considered the embodiment of the unity of the world order, combining order and chaos, as well as the incarnation of the god Vishna. The building is located in the eastern part of the famous Puputan Square.
The Pura Jagatnakhta temple is a state building, therefore, it is open for visiting by absolutely all believers, without restrictions. All holidays are also celebrated in this temple, since the temple is considered the central one in the city of Denpasar. Although the Balinese recognize many gods, the belief in one supreme god (which, however, may have many guises) shows that Balinese Hinduism adheres to the principles of Pankasil, namely, its first principle - belief in one god. Pankasil is the five principles of the national philosophy of Indonesia, a kind of commandment.
Padmasana of the Pura Jagatnakhta temple - the symbolic center of the main sanctuary in the shape of a lotus - is made of white coral, there is an empty throne on the back of a turtle and two mystical snake-like creatures (nagas). The throne symbolizes the heavens, and the nagas are the symbol of the foundation of the world. The walls of the temple are decorated with engravings depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, ancient Indian epics.
Every month, this temple hosts two festivals - during the new moon and full moon. During the festivals, the temple features breathtaking performances featuring Wayang shadow puppets. It should be remembered that you will need to buy the sarong national dress in order to visit this temple.
