Description of the attraction

Vati is a small charming town in the eastern part of the island of Kalymnos. The settlement is located just 12 km northeast of the capital of the island - the city of Potia and today it is a very popular resort center.

Nestled in a green, fertile valley and on the slopes of the surrounding picturesque hills, Vati is a traditional Greek settlement. The picturesque valley stretches all the way to the coast and ends on the shore of a very narrow natural bay, where the port of Vati - Rina is located. The deeply cut bay and the high steep cliffs surrounding it create an impressive sight, somewhat reminiscent of the famous Norwegian fjords. This place is considered to be one of the most beautiful on the island of Kalymnos.

Today Vati, which was just a small fishing village quite recently, has a fairly well-developed tourist infrastructure. Here you will find a good selection of accommodation and a lot of excellent taverns and restaurants with a huge selection of dishes from the freshest fish and seafood.

Since the region has been inhabited since prehistoric times and has preserved to this day traces of various eras and civilizations, you can diversify your vacation by visiting local attractions - the early Christian settlement of Rina, the Byzantine temples of the Assumption of the Virgin and Panagia Kirikos with well-preserved unique wall frescoes dating from 11-14 centuries, the ruins of the ancient Acropolis of Embola (presumably the 4th century BC), the early Christian basilica of Taxiarchi, the caves of Dascalio and Stimenion, the prehistoric settlement of Castella and much more. From Vathi Port you can also go on a fascinating boat trip along the picturesque shores of Kalymnos and visit the incredibly beautiful secluded coves, which can only be reached by sea.
