Description of the attraction

In the capital of the Republic of Mari El - Yoshkar-Ola, decorating the central square of the city, stands the building of the National Art Gallery. The building itself, which is a wonderful landmark of the city, has a small feature that attracts crowds of onlookers every hour. In the center of the building, at the level of 3-4 floors, there is the main clock of the city, an analogue of the chimes of the Obraztsov Theater and the Prague Orloi with moving figures. At the beginning of each hour, a donkey with an icon of the Mother of God rides past to music from a religious play performed by figures from the church choir. On major Orthodox holidays, church chants are held in the city square under the clock.

The building with the musical clock on the square with the historical name of Prince Obolensky-Nogotkov was built in 2007. The opening of the new gallery building was timed to coincide with the Republic Day and National Unity Day celebrations on November 4. The National Art Gallery, presenting thematic expositions of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Mari El, is located on two floors, presented in the form of a twisting spiral.

The Mari chimes on the building of the National Art Gallery are an adornment of the main square of Yoshkar-Ola and its main attraction.
