Description of the attraction

The Holy Trinity Belopesotsky Monastery was founded by the monk of the Novgorod Varlaam-Khutynsky Monastery, Abbot Vladimir, on a place called White Sands since ancient times. At first, a small, Belopesotskaya monastery, erected on the strategically important southern border of the Russian state, later, under the patronage of Tsars Ivan III and Vasily III, turns into a well-fortified fortress-outpost. In 1918, some of the monks were taken outside the walls of the monastery and shot. In 1924 the monastery was closed, and its buildings were transferred to the Historical Museum. However, until 1933, divine services were held in the Trinity Cathedral of the monastery.

The Trinity Cathedral of the Belopesotsky Monastery was placed on a high basement, the volume of its quadrangle was surrounded on all sides by a covered gallery-gulbisch, three high front porches led to the gallery. By the end of the twentieth century, only the western porch survived, but this covered gallery was made in an unusual tradition. The fact is that the gulbische gallery is two-tiered. From the east, the cathedral is adjoined by a three-part altar apse, which is strongly carried out to the outside.

Almost simultaneously with the cathedral, the old stone walls and towers were actually rebuilt and rebuilt around the monastery. At the beginning of the 19th century, some of the towers were converted into monastic cells, for which it was necessary to break through wide openings in their walls.

In 1802 - 1804, during the reign of the abbot, the builder, Theodula and the hegumen Ioannikia, a complex of buildings in the classicism style was built along the southern monastery wall, and two churches were included in their number. The Sergius refectory church was erected on the vaulted cellars and basements of the 16th century monastery refectory with the blessing of Metropolitan Platon of Moscow and Kolomna (Levshin). Another temple - in memory of the Beheading of John the Baptist - was also erected in the first half of the century and built into the existing ensemble.
