Description of the attraction

The Church of Saints Wojciech and Stanislaus is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the center of Rzeszow.

It is believed that the church was founded in 1363 on the site of the former small wooden church of St. Felix. The first mention of the new church was found in a letter from Casimir the Great to Pope Urban V.

Church of St. Wojciech and Stanislav was destroyed by fires and wars in the 15th century. In 1427, restoration work began using the old part of the temple made of stone. In the 17th century, Rzeszow suffered a severe fire, during which the church was badly damaged again. By order of Nikolai Spitka, reconstruction soon began, during which it was decided to expand the church. In 1754 the temple was rebuilt in the Baroque style, during this period a bell tower with a dome and a spire crowned with an angel was built.

The interior of the church, which can be seen today, was created in the 18th century: the altar with columns from 1730, the rococo pulpit, the side altars in the Baroque style.

During restoration work in 2008, it was discovered that the main façade of the parish church dates back to the Middle Ages and has Gothic features. Bricks have been found whose manufacturing method is characteristic only of the medieval period. During the work, it was also possible to find traces of a narrow window, which may be part of a former Gothic arch.
