Description of the attraction

The Millennium Bridge (Millennium) was built in Podgorica and opened in early July 2005. On July 13, Montenegro celebrates Statehood Day, and the bridge has become a kind of gift to all citizens.

The cost of the grandiose cable-stayed bridge cost the city budget 7 million euros. The author of the project is Mladlen Ulichevich, who is a professor of civil engineering. The length of the bridge is 140 meters (from one end to the other, the length is 173 meters), the width is 24 meters, and the height of the pylon above the road is almost 60 meters; 12 cables and 24 counterweights were also involved in the construction.

This unusual and in its own way unique bridge serves not only a decorative function. In practical terms, it connects the central part of Podgorica, namely, Ivan Chernoevich Boulevard, with the street of the new city - July 13, and also passes over the Moraca River.

The design of the Millennium Bridge marks the entry of small, conservative Montenegro into the 21st century, where technological progress comes first. The bridge has successfully blended into the overall appearance of the city and since its opening has become a well-deservedly popular tourist destination.

In the immediate vicinity of the Millennium Bridge there are also two other attractions of Podgorica: the Moscow-Podgorica bridge (pedestrian), and the monument to the Soviet poet, composer and actor Vladimir Vysotsky.
