Description of the attraction

The puppet theater in Donetsk is located in the central part of the city. The theater is very well known to almost all residents of the city, it is especially popular with its youngest residents.

It all started in 1933. The puppet theater was founded by Viktor Dobrovolsky and Lyubov Gakkebush, who created a puppet theater in the Donetsk Drama Theater, where they worked at that time. At the very beginning, many difficulties awaited them. The artists learned to sew and make dolls themselves. We made a velvet screen on our own, which turned out to be quite light and strong.

The actors worked in the puppet theater in their free time. But they took up this business with such enthusiasm and ardor that soon the very first performance titled "Young Patriots" appeared in their repertoire. A little later there were fairy tales: "Goat Dereza", "Three Little Pigs", "The Tale of Tsar Saltan". The artists traveled with their performances to many factories and mines. And on weekends, they put up a screen on the big stage and gave performances to the delight of the children.

In 1958, a new period began in the life of the puppet theater, thanks to its new composition - it was headed by I. S. Zhuravlev, and since 1968 - by I. P. puppet theaters of Ukraine.

In 1971 Boris Smirnov became the chief director of this theater. These times of Smirnov's performances were marked with prestigious diplomas at many both all-Ukrainian and interregional festivals.

For all the years of the theater's activity, more than 200 performances have been staged, ten of which have received prizes at very prestigious festivals. At the moment, the theater's repertoire includes more than 30 performances on a variety of topics.
