Description of the attraction
Rose is a coastal village in the Herceg Novi community. It is located on the northwestern coast of the Lustica peninsula, in the Boka Kotorska Bay opposite Herceg Novi. According to the latest census, only 10 people live in it. But one should not think that this is an abandoned and forgotten village. This is not true. Emir Kusturica and Yuri Luzhkov, who, according to rumors, have villas here, will certainly agree with this statement.
The convenient location of Rose was celebrated by the commanders of all the armies that have noted here over the past centuries. The glorious past of Rose is, perhaps, reminiscent of the main local attraction - the fort of the same name, now rebuilt into a restaurant. However, the locals will be able to tell a lot about this fortress, and maybe even show what is hidden from the eyes of travelers. The old fortress has its own underground passages and even a submarine pier.
The predecessor of the current village of Rose can be called the Greek village of Porto Rose, which was raided by the Saracens in the 9th century, and subsequent earthquakes completed what people could not do, that is, wiped it off the face of the earth. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Rose was turned into a place where there was a tax collector from all ships arriving in the Bay of Kotor.
Today the village of Rose is a typical resort on the Adriatic coast. The embankment along the edge of the surf is adorned with neat white houses, most of which are rented out during the high season. Both Montenegrins themselves and foreigners come here on vacation. Rose can be reached by car along the coast or by boat from Herceg Novi. The sea around Rose is ideal for diving, which only adds to the popularity of the town.
