Description of the attraction
The National Library of the Komi Republic is located in Syktyvkar and is one of the largest in the entire republic. The library is located on Sovetskaya Street and is a unique architectural monument. Most residents of the city call it the library. Lenin, because that is how it was named in 1958 - as soon as it began to be located in this building. The National Library is more than 170 years old - during this period it managed to change its name, priorities, status several times and even carry out the necessary changes in work, which were associated with cultural, social changes and a significant increase in the flow of documents entering the archive.
The library building was built according to the project of architects Lopatto and Lysyakov. In 1991 it was taken under state protection as an architectural monument of regional importance.
At the moment, the National Library of the Komi Republic is a genuine cultural, local history, information and research center of the city of Syktyvkar. It has become the largest book repository located in the Northwest region of the Russian Federation. Book funds number about 2.4 million items, with 1,260 titles subscribed as newspapers and magazines. Church books, old manuscripts, newspapers and magazines of the 19th century, as well as such valuable books as The Encyclopedia of Britannica: Dictionary of Sciences, Arts and Literature, published in 25 volumes during 1875-1888, published in 1823, are of considerable value. 1885 in the Komi language "Gospel". The fund dedicated to foreign literature is especially rich, which includes about 26 thousand different documents published in 72 languages of the world.
The library of the city of Syktyvkar is a one-of-a-kind keeper of descriptions for copyright patents and certificates that were registered on the territory of Russia and the USSR. The fund of information and technical documentation is 1.5 million storage units, which is the largest in the entire republic.
One of the most important functions of the National Library was to provide citizens with the necessary information, which is associated with access not only to magazines and books. There is a so-called musical fund, which contains records of foreign and Russian music, modern and classical, as well as music of different peoples of the world. A video subscription is provided - this is more than four hundred screen adaptations of classic literature, films, performances dedicated to art.
The library has an International Information Center called "World without Borders", located on the second floor and providing information and news about the political, cultural, economic and social life of various countries. The center consists of three halls: German-French, American and Finno-Ugric. One of the center's tasks is to develop artistic, intellectual, scientific and educational abilities and contacts between Komi and leading foreign countries.
