Description of the attraction
The monument to K. F. Fuchs is installed in the central part of the city, on the steep bank of the Kazanka River, in the park that bears his name. The monument was erected in 1997. The authors of the monument are sculptors A. Balashov and I. Kozlov.
Karl Fedorovich Fuchs was a multilaterally gifted person: a doctor and historian, naturalist, researcher of the life of Kazan Tatars, rector of Kazan University. To the 50th anniversary of the death of the famous scientist, botanist, doctor, historian, ethnographer, numismatist and archaeologist - Karl Fuchs, it was decided to perpetuate his memory. The initiator was the Society of Archeology, headed by K. Fuchs. The City Duma decided to break up a public garden on the bank of the Kazanka River and rename Poperechno-Tikhvinskaya Street in his honor. On his grave, located at the Arsk cemetery (in its Lutheran part), it was decided to erect a tombstone.
The Fuchs Garden was solemnly laid in May 1896. The territory of the garden was planted with rare species of shrubs and trees. In Soviet times, the garden was not looked after, and its name was forgotten. 1996 marked the 220th anniversary of the birth of Karl Fuchs and the 150th anniversary of his death. On the initiative of the German community of Kazan, which bears the name of Fuchs, the square was cleaned and landscaped. In 1997, a bronze monument to Karl Fuchs was unveiled in the park. The sculptor was created by two sculptors - Andrey Balashov and Igor Kozlov. In scale, the sculpture is close to the actual size of the figure. The sculptors created the image of an educated, intelligent, loving life, kind, smiling K. Fuchs.
In Kazan, the image of a knowledgeable, inquisitive doctor is honored. He loved the Tatars, and they trusted him. Fuchs was the only male doctor who was allowed to examine Tatar women. Karl Fuchs learned both languages that are relevant for Kazan - Russian and Tatar. He bought a house in the Tatar settlement, studied the life and culture of the Kazan Tatars. K. Fuchs was the founder of the Kazan Botanical Garden. When he died, all Kazan accompanied him: both Russians and Tatars. Flowers are brought to the Fuchs monument as a sign of respect.
The monument also has a riddle. There are several versions, whose head is depicted on the top of the cane, which Fuchs holds in his hand. According to one version, the sculptor was not paid for the work, and he immortalized himself in the form of compensation. On the other - that they paid well, and he immortalized the then mayor of Kazan.
