Description of the attraction
On Jagiellonskaya Street, there is one of the oldest university buildings in the world, which has not changed its purpose since the Middle Ages. This is the Collegium Maius, erected by 1400 and serving for centuries as the main residence of the university, and now becoming a museum of its history, the state rooms of which are used for especially solemn occasions.
Krakow University was founded in 1364 by order of Casimir the Great. This building appeared after Vladislav Jagiello bought several houses and merged them into a university residence. After the reconstruction, the building acquired its characteristic appearance: the walls of red Gothic bricks are propped up by massive scarps; steep roof slopes cut by chimneys with chimney tops are covered with high jagged pediments. From the beautiful courtyard, surrounded by an arcade gallery, you can go to the ceremonial and museum halls, admiring their decoration and architecture.
