Description of the attraction

The sight of Odessa is the only museum of the history of Jews in Ukraine. Museum "Migdal-Shorashim" was opened to its visitors in November 2002 thanks to the Odessa Jewish community center "Migdal". The creation of such a museum was facilitated by the fact that the history of the Jews of Odessa was not reflected anywhere in the expositions of the Odessa state museums. The exposition area of the Migdal-Shorashim Museum is about 160 sq.m. The museum fund is more than 13 thousand items. storage, of which about 80% are genuine (various documents, photographs, books, newspapers, postcards, works of art, household and religious items, musical instruments, etc.), which are presented in eight exhibition halls. Museum materials related to the history of the Jews of Odessa include the period from the 1770s to the present day. More widely presented materials from the history of the Holocaust in the Odessa region (period 1920s-1930s).

Donations are the main source of replenishment of museum funds. They were performed by everyone who was interested and not indifferent to the history of the city without Jews, and the history of Jews without Odessa. It should be noted that the most significant were the donations of D. Frumin, V. Verkhovsky, A. Drozdovsky, L. Dusman, V. Litovchenko, B. Minkus, I. Naidis, M. Poizner and many others. dr.

The purpose of the exposition is not only to present significant periods in the history of the Jews of Odessa, but also to reflect on their current problems.

The Odessa Museum "Migdal-Shorashim" regularly hosts excursions, exhibitions, memorial evenings, club and seminar classes.
