Description of the attraction

Memorial "Valley of Death", located in the village of Myskhako, is a complex dedicated to the heroism of the soldiers who for a long time kept this land from the Nazi troops. The official opening of the memorial complex took place in the fall of 1974. The authors of this project were a group of architects and sculptors from Novorossiysk under the leadership of the famous architect G. Nadzharyanov.

The Memorial "Valley of Death" includes several monuments, including the monuments "Stone Calendar", "Explosion", "Front End", "Demonstration Map-Scheme", "Well of Life", as well as memorial battle signs "Command post 107- 1st Rifle Battalion "," Command post of the 8th Rifle Brigade "and a plane tree, personally planted by Secretary General L. N. Brezhnev in September 1974

Before the entrance, on the stele, you can see a commemorative inscription that reads: “Along this valley, the left flank of the Malaya Zemlya troops was provided with food, ammunition and everything necessary for the conduct of battle and life. Here was the only source of drinking water. The enemy kept the entire area under constant massive fire ….

In addition, there are 9 more steles, which remind of the bloodiest battles that took place in April 1943. On a low pedestal, an original monument "Explosion" was erected, made of fragments of shells, bombs and mines in the form of a tree. The weight of this monument is 1250 kg - about the same amount of metal that the Nazis brought down on average on each soldier who defended the Lesser Land.

Large steps carved into the rock lead to the closed command post of the 8th Rifle Brigade. At the foot of the Koldun Mountain, in a shallow valley, there is another monument of the memorial complex - "The Well of Life". During the days of fierce battles, it was one of the main drinking springs on Malaya Zemlya. This memorial is completed by an anti-tank "hedgehog" mounted on a concrete pedestal.
