Description of the attraction
Petra Tu Romiou, which translates as "Stone of the Greek", is one of the most romantic and beautiful places in the vicinity of Paphos. It is believed that this name is associated with one of the Byzantine heroes - Digenis Akritas. It is said that at this place he managed to stop the Saracen Arabs, who raided the island from the 7th to the 10th century. The legendary hero threw a huge stone right at the enemies who swam up to the shore in his boats, which is why this territory became known as Petra Tu Romiu - this stone still rises above sea water.
However, there is another, more romantic legend associated with this coast, which has another name - the Birthplace of Aphrodite or Aphrodite's Rock. According to legend, it was there that the beautiful Greek goddess, born from sea foam, came to earth. After all, it is not for nothing that one of her names is Cypria.
Today this coast is very popular among couples and newlyweds who come there literally from all over the world. In addition, it is believed that lonely, but people looking for love, can find a soul mate there. Romantics believe that if you find a heart-shaped stone on this beach, you will soon meet your true love. And if you swim around the Rock of Aphrodite three times in a row counterclockwise, then your wish will come true. The most important thing is not to confuse the coveted stone with other rocks, which are quite numerous in that place. The “same” Rock of Aphrodite is a relatively small semicircular dark stone that rises above the water just a few meters from the shore.
But in order to stay young and beautiful, one has only to swim naked near the rock on a moonlit night. However, you must be extremely careful in this, since the water in Petru Tu Romiu is quite cold, and the waves are high and strong.
